Licensed Practical Nurse - Mental Health

These positions are located within the Mental Health Nursing Service at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Tuskegee, AL.
The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for the provision of nursing services for patients and works in the Inpatient Psychiatric setting that is a High Intensity Psychiatric Unit.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Implements approved policies and procedures; Completes required documentation in accordance to Veterans Health Administration, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare, regulatory and accreditation requirements; Assists the Registered Nurse with ensuring completion of a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment through information gathering; Participates in completion, documentation, and implementation of treatment plan for patients; Functions as an integral member of the treatment team and assumes responsibility for assisting with completion of assessments for patients; Coordinates and assists the physician/nurse practitioner/registered nurse with medical aspects of patient's care;Makes notification and referrals to appropriate discipline(s) based on assessed needs; Supports the mission and vision of inpatient unit (e.

, provides education and counseling on disease prevention, health promotion, and medication management); Conducts collection of specimens; Provides care to patients with a multiplicity of disease processes and provides for continuity of patient care;Initiates, participates, and leads disciplinary proceedings for patients; Reports and documents current observations such as patients' physical condition, emotional response and results of procedures; Observes skin conditions, variations in vital signs, personal habits of patients, and listens for clues, obvious and subtle, to patients' reaction to illness and treatment which have relevance to the health status of the patient;Recognizes the need for and initiates emergency measures in life threatening situations; Administers oral, topical, subcutaneous/intramuscular, and intradermal medications; and, Performs all other duties as assigned.

Designated Drug-Testing Position:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
