Supervisory Police Officer
Supervisor serves as the police operational advisor to the Supervisory Police Officer, GS-11 in developing polices regarding law enforcement at CAVHCS on behalf of the associate Director of Operations. Directs and controls the preliminary Investigations into criminal activities, which include felony, and misdemeanor investigations, allegations of fraud, misconduct and mistreatment. Provides leadership and supervise the activities of VA Police Officers employed by the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System. Observes and evaluates the performance of police personnel assigned to his/her supervision. Develops work improvements plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and methods for identifying and protecting Information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or material. Work Schedule:

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
experience leading police officers; planning, preparing and making changes in the organization of work assignments and functions for police officers; performing a full range of law enforcement and security work to include providing physical protection of patients, employees and visitors; conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations of violations of federal and state laws, and investigations of violations of VA policy and regulations. The officer conducts walking and motorized patrol of grounds and parking areas open to the public in all types of weather and walking patrols of the buildings and grounds to detect/prevent criminal activity. The officer responds to alarms, pursues and restrains individuals suspected of committing a crime or mentally/emotionally disturbed persons who are acting in a manner that may injure themselves or others. The work requires regular recurring physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, driving and similar activities. It is frequently necessary for the officer to functions located throughout the facility's grounds, respond to incidents in progress, emergencies or alarms in the outlying buildings and he/she has to cover long distances by running in both the pursuit of suspects and response to requests for emergency assistance or alarms from clinics or functions located throughout the facility's ground.
