This position is a full-time optometrist located at the Central Alabama VA Medical Center, assigned to the Acute Care and Specialties Service Line as an Optometrist at either of our main campuses located in Montgomery, AL and Tuskegee, AL or at outlying CBOCs located at Fort Benning, AL, Columbus, AL, and Fort Rucker, AL. The primary purpose of the position is to provide supervision over Optometry staff and services to include administrative and management functions. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Eye examinations in regularly scheduled clinics-provides diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic eye care to patients of all ages, taking into consideration age-related and cultural differences of the various veteran populations served Address Visual functions to include reduced visual acuity, impaired contrast sensitivity function, impaired central and/or peripheral vision, eye movement dysfunction, loss of depth perception and combinations of these. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Provides clinical supervision to student interns when applicable. Participate actively in performance improvement and attend assigned meetings or process action teams. Work collaboratively with other specialties. Follow VA directives and polices and maintains current in BLS. Supports the TECS (Technology-based Eye Care Services) program. Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to veterans in need of Optometry services. Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes. Attend mandatory trainings, such as, VA Voices, Own the Moment, comply with CME requirements in the specialty of Optometry, and must complete the required TMS courses timely. Must be aware and compliant of VA SAIL metrics and VA Performance Measures. Work Schedule:

Citizenship:
Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education:
Degree of Doctor of Optometry resulting from a course of education in optometry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools or colleges approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
United States and Canadian schools or colleges of optometry listed as accredited by the Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure. Licensure or Registration:
Licensed to practice optometry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Optometrists are required to possess full and unrestricted licensure and to maintain a current registration in their State of licensure if this is a requirement of the particular State. The facility Director may waive this requirement if the optometrist is to serve in a country other than the United States and the optometrist has licensure in that country. English Language Proficiency. Optometrists appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). . Preferred
Experience:
Completion of an Optometry Residency at a Veteran Affairs Medical Center is highly preferred. Grade Requirements:
Senior Grade. Meets the requirements for Intermediate grade and the requirements in paragraphs (1) and (2) below:
The optometrist at this level possesses such academic stature as would warrant a faculty appointment of a professional level in an approved school or college of optometry. Has demonstrated recognized superior professional attainment as evidenced by one or more of the following examples:
Has served as a team leader in attacking major optometric problems affecting the continued provision of quality care health services at a VISN, statewide, or national level. There is such confidence in the optometrist at this level that there is unusual support of the individual's recommendations and conclusions. Has had responsibility for carrying out a major optometric program segment on a national level. Has conducted high level studies in a difficult area of vision research which has contributed to a substantial advance in the health field, with important professional publications. Reference:

This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing; clear, distinctive speech,; telephone and computer usage, walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring of equipment/objects may be required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
