Registered Nurse (Patient Safety)

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated Health Care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama. Current/ Former Federal employees must submit a current SF-50 The Quality Management (QM) The Patient Safety Manager (PSM) functions collaboratively with the Clinical Risk Manager and quality management team. The Selectee functions as the lead implementer of patient safety policies and activities developed by the National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS). The individual is the facility's key person to help build and implement systems and promote the culture of safety within the medical center and for VA patients in all healthcare settings. The individual has primary responsibility for training and implementation of the patient safety and RCA process to clinicians, management, and all relevant support personnel within the facility and CBOCs. The Selectee must have the attitude that building the culture of safety is paramount and the foundation upon which safe operations are based. He/she must also understand that the culture takes time to build and requires constant nurturing and reinforcement to maintain. The Selectee is responsible for the implementation and oversight of patient safety programs advancing our medical center and associated CBOCs toward a Highly Reliable Organization (HRO). The individual has primary responsibility for training and implementation of the patient safety and Just Culture process to clinicians, management, and all relevant support personnel within the facility and CBOCs. The Selectee will function as a resource person and consultant for clinical issues related to patient safety in an effort to ensure that patient care needs are provided in a safe environment and in a timely manner. The Selectee is responsible and accountable for all patient care activities related to patient safety to include the provisions of information, education, training, and technical support for all healthcare staff, related to RCA's, adverse events and environment of care. The Selectee collaboratively interacts with Senior Leadership in order to provide expert knowledge and information that will result in safe patient care outcomes. The Selectee will possess the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the quality improvement and patient safety across the facility. The Selectee will work with direct care staff throughout the facility to assure that all resources are in place to facilitate safe patient care. This includes educational needs and general support services. The Selectee will serve as a liaison between Senior Leadership and frontline staff to assure seamless functioning to support safe patient care. As safe patient care initiates are expanded in the facility, s/he works with all stakeholders to assure that appropriate resources are available, and the required education and knowledge is provided to all relevant staff. The incumbent works with national groups and VISN level groups to assure standardization across settings. The Selectee will work with vendors as appropriate; to assure the facility has most appropriate tools to complete safe patient care. The Selectee interacts with all levels of staff throughout the facility to assure that patient safety concerns are acknowledged/documented, analyzed, and discussed to assure quality patient care and outcomes are achieved and maintained. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
